We knew we needed a truly special structure for our event space. Something that was beautifully linked to our heritage as a farmhouse. Although we love the juxtaposition of old and new, we wanted the synergy of an old building sitting alongside the original farmhouse. We found the perfect solution with an English Haypress barn that we located 709 miles away in Indiana.
The barn dates back to 1859 and was used originally to store pressed bales of hay. The weight of the hay bales, which were originally 300 lbs each, required a substantial structure capable of withstanding huge loads. This is why our wonderful barn is in the condition that we find it today. Now restored to its former glory, having survived the American Civil War of 1861, it has been witness to a lot of history!
Transporting tens of thousands of pounds of wooden barn halfway across the country was interesting to say the least, but she’s now sitting comfortably in an idyllic spot on our meadow next to our fishing pond. This beautiful wooden structure, all hand-hewn, has been carefully restored and enhanced with features such as a 40 feet ceiling with a huge cupola where daylight floods in and the night sky is revealed. Complementing this dramatic event space are a modern kitchen, state of the art music and entertainment systems, beautiful bathrooms and of course a bar, so our gatherings have the same luxury feel as the rest of the hotel.
The Barn can cater for up to 200 people, so whether you’re planning a wedding, a party, reunion or corporate offsite, it has that magical essence that will create some very special memories. Of course, the Barn itself is turning 150 years old this year, so we’ll probably be throwing a party for her too!
